Painting in public spaces as a social experience

Post by Paulien Bekker

‘MUTO’ is painted by ‘Blu’. It’s an ambiguous animation painted on public walls in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Baden, Switzerland. ‘Blu’ is the pseudonym of an Italian artist, who has been active in street art since 1999.

Blu’s artistic practice has contributed to a radical change in the art market. His murals and his videos are given for free to the public space of the cities and on the world wide web.

His aesthetic search is motivated by a belief in an open source philosophy, persistent in its anarchical revolt against contemporary art conventions. It is unique in its beauty.
